“On the Rocks,” a new film on Apple Television set+, focuses on a troubled marriage concerning Laura (a author performed by Rashida Jones) and Dean (a startup government played by Marlon Wayans). When Laura starts to suspect Dean of cheating on her, she turns to her father Felix (Bill Murray) for assist.
The movie reunites Murray with his “Lost in Translation” director Sofia Coppola. It can truly feel feather-mild at moments, many thanks to his seemingly effortless appeal — it’s difficult to resist Felix when he’s singing to a bar total of strangers or devouring caviar through an impromptu stakeout. But the script and performances also make it painfully crystal clear that he’s let Laura down as a father, and that her disappointment hasn’t long gone absent.
As we explore on the latest episode of the Initial Information podcast, we loved observing superbly shot footage of Murray and Jones in basic New York Metropolis bars and dining establishments. We were being, however, a little bit considerably less happy with the ending, which does not really do justice to all the thorny emotional challenges that the movie raises.
