Microsoft launches Lists, a new Airtable-like app for Microsoft 365

Microsoft now released Lists, a new “smart tracking app” for Microsoft 365 consumers. That may audio a ton like a to-do list app and, as Microsoft by now offers Microsoft To Do, you may ponder why it would hassle with Lists. But it appears like Lists goes properly past a basic to-do application. In truth, Lists looks a lot more like a competitor to Airtable, with the addition of all the standard Microsoft integrations just one would count on.

The way Microsoft describes it, Lists is a software to “track concerns, property, routines, contacts, inventory and much more employing customizable sights and intelligent principles and alerts to hold anyone in sync.” It characteristics deep integrations into Teams, SharePoint and other Microsoft solutions and will launch this summer season on the world-wide-web, with cellular apps slated for afterwards this year.

Based on what Microsoft has shared so much, Lists will element a bunch of pre-manufactured templates for factors like crew contacts, function itineraries, enterprise travel approvals and onboarding checklists.

As you can see from that record, it appears to be like Microsoft has purposely kept the service fairly adaptable, so that it can accommodate a lot of use conditions. In that respect, it reminds me a little bit of services like Trello (and the Lists mobile application bears a putting resemblance to the Trello app).

To enable all of these use conditions, Lists include unique means to visualize your lists. For now, there are three sights: grid, gallery and calendar. The standard perspective is “grid,” which might remind you a bit of Airtable, if you have at any time utilised that. Calendar perspective explains by itself, whilst the gallery view is perfect for everything that is much more visual. And for the reason that Lists appears to be to be all about overall flexibility, you can also create tailor made sights.

In contrast to Airtable, though, Lists doesn’t feel to element a Kanban view or the ability to enter knowledge by custom made forms.

Another main aspect of Lists is its method for generating guidelines. “Once you come to a decision on the end result, click via if/then steps to evolve your guidelines,” writes Microsoft in today’s announcement. “Choose persons, status, and value variations to send out notifications or programmatically update values in other places in the record. Lastly, use rules to established reminders to hold you and your group informed.”

Since all things Microsoft now direct to Teams quicker or afterwards, the business is definitely stressing that Lists are definitely integrated with Teams, far too, identical to other applications inside the company’s communications system.
